What is Glutathione?

Glutathione, or GSH, is also known as reduced L-glutathione, and is the naturally produced antioxidant that exists in all human cells. It is produced by the liver and is considered the human body’s master antioxidant. It is unlike other antioxidants, because it is intracellular.

Glutathione is a peptide comprised of three amino acids: glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid. Being found in all the cells of the human body, GSH is also present in liquids that are produced by the body, such as: bile, the pleura of the lungs, and blood.

master-antioxidantGlutathione is produced within each cell to cleanse and protect the human body at the cellular level by detoxifying, removing heavy metals, and neutralizing free radicals, which can build up in cells and cause irreversible damage. Free radicals are readily reactive compounds produced in the body as a result of normal metabolic functions, however, they are also able to enter the body through environmental exposures.

GSH is instrumental in antioxidant defense, the breakdown of nutrients, and regulation of many biological processes including immune response.

GSH is the only antioxidant that when once used, it will recycle itself for continued use. The benefits of glutathione are innumerable.

The Function of Glutathione

Glutathione, or GSH, is involved in many processes in the body, including tissue building and repair, making chemicals and proteins needed in the body, and especially, for the functioning of the immune system.

Its antioxidant property makes it necessary for the operation of white blood cells, or lymphocytes, because it permits them to reach their full potential during the oxygen-requiring activity of the body’s immune response.

The GSH antioxidant enables the human body to repair damage caused by stress, trauma, pollution, infection, radiation, drugs, aging, poor diet, injury, and burns.

The benefits of Glutathione include protecting the body’s cells from oxidative and peroxidative damage, which includes removing free radicals, which can cause significant damage to the body’s DNA and cellular membranes if they are left uncontrolled.

When cells are gravely deficient in GSH, the human body begins to suffer from cardiovascular and inflammatory issues, muscle fatigue, liver dysfunction and the onset of age-related diseases.

Because GSH is intracellular, it contributes the distinct ability to optimize the efficiency of all other antioxidants.

GSH not only provides us with unique health benefits of its own, it also perfects and intensifies the health benefits of other antioxidants. This contribution significantly decreases the human body’s vulnerability to uninhibited cell disintegration due to infections, oxidative stress, and free radicals.

People who are inflicted with serious diseases, are inevitably lacking, or are deficient in necessary Glutathione levels.

GSH deficiency allows oxidative stress to occur, which contributes to the manifestation of many diseases, including: cancer, diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, cystic fibrosis, liver disease, stroke, and heart attack.

Glutathione has the capability to prevent, or overcome almost any disease, especially diseases that are correlated with the aging process, since free radical damage in the cells is the reason many diseases of old age manifest. Glutathione and Cancer has also been widely discussed in the scientific world.

The Causes Of Glutathione Deficiency In The Cells

As the human body ages, the production of GSH in the cells naturally decreases, which is responsible for the untimely physical feelings of old age. Deficient GSH levels can prematurely and quickly occur because of the body’s exposure to an impure environment, a poor deficient diet, stress, and an unhealthy lifestyle.

Consequently, when the toxic load becomes overwhelming to the production of Glutathione, the body’s ability to recycle the already existing GSH is weakened, which contributes to, and causes deficiency.

The highest convergence of GSH exists in the liver, because it is produced in the liver, causing it to be conclusively significant in the detoxification and elimination of free radicals that threaten the wellness of the body.

The continued accumulation of these threatening toxins becomes apparent as oxidative stress, occurring when the presence of free radicals in the body transcends Glutathione’s ability to neutralize and eliminate them.

An overabundance of free radicals can overwhelm the liver and its ability to produce Glutathione, and also, overpower the existing GSH levels, which cannot handle the oxidative stress because the Glutathione levels are too low, due to factors that cause deficiency.

The solution is to raise the Glutathione levels.

Sources For Increasing Glutathione Levels

To attempt to solve the problem of restoring healthy Glutathione levels, many have tried GSH supplements to stimulate and raise the production of this master antioxidant. GSH is sold in supplement form, however, whether it is beneficial in this endeavor is arguable.

There are claims that Glutathione supplements are beneficial in treating and preventing a number of health conditions. But on the other hand, GSH is probably not easily, or readily absorbed by the body when taken by mouth, and could possibly adversely affect the body’s own production of natural Glutathione.

It is argued that molecular GSH cannot be taken orally because stomach acid destroys Glutathione when it goes through the digestive tract, and even if it is achieved that GSH makes it into the bloodstream, GSH molecules are too big to pass through the cell membranes.

A more practical and effective solution is to take the precursors of Glutathione, which are the molecules the body needs to naturally produce Glutathione, rather than GSH itself.

There is no solid proof this method is effective, but logic dictates and it’s the general opinion among experts, that using this method will increase the amount of Glutathione in the cells.

The only efficient way to get more GSH in the human body is to stimulate the body to make more inside the cell. It is suggested that the GSH precursors, contain mainly the amino acid, cysteine, which will help deliver the precursory ingredients into the cells.

Along with taking the Original Glutathione Formula, it is also a good idea to improve your diet, and food intake as a whole, and utilize whole foods that are proven to boost Glutathione production, such as: garlic, asparagus, walnuts, red meat, raw milk, turmeric, broccoli, avocados, and eggs.
